Awards for Young Musicians recently welcomed more young people to our Awards Programme and I’m pleased to say we offered The Cheryl King Award to two young musicians from Surrey.
Caleb, 12, piano
Caleb would like to his Award to help pay for piano lessons. As he progresses, he would like also like play the organ. Beyond music, his other hobbies are rugby and Scouts and he aspires to become a Michelin starred chef when he leaves school!
Zachary, 11, violin

I am Stepan…
I am Stepan, I am 13 years old and I live with my mom. My hobbies are music and being with friends.
When I was a very young child, I always made sounds by hitting things and listening to echoes. I got interested in drums when I was in infant school and in violin a couple years later. I find music fun and enjoy playing instruments, there is lots to discover and learn. I am never bored with it.
This year, I have taken up learning oboe and flute. I can play in many different bands and orchestras. I love the different musical discoveries and learning. My oboe playing is very popular with ensembles.
Having lessons through the support of the Cheryl King Trust enables me to achieve a lot of progress in learning the instruments much faster than just watching YouTube. Without the lessons I would not be able to play much and would not be able to take it as seriously as I do now or make future life with it.
I would like to be a musician when I grow up. I also intend to compose and possibly teach music to others. I have recently began arranging music for my school orchestra.
Thank you Woking Symphony Orchestra
We’re delighted that the Woking Symphony Orchestra have supported the Cheryl King Trust at their concert on Sunday 20 November. We are delighted to say we raised £228.40 from their audience. That will fund one young person for a whole year on a 50% bursary.
Thanks to Redhill Sinfonia!
We are so grateful to Redhill Sinfonia for agreeing to help us raise funds at their concert on Saturday 19 November. We are delighted to announce that the CKT funds were boosted by a fantastic £551.93. That will more than fund two young people for a whole year of support on a 50% bursary.
Our summer newsletter
We have just published our latest newsletter, announcing a increase in the number of bursaries we are awarding, thanks to the generosity of the people of Surrey. You can read it here.
Thanks to Surrey Mozart Players…
At Surrey Mozart Players recent concert, the audience kindly donated £261 as they left. This will fund around 2 terms of music tuition for an average young person. THANKS!
